In this series of workshops, emerging playwrights and INKubator alums Alyssa Haddad and Catherine Weingarten will put the “play” back in playwriting and give attendees the creativity, silly, energizing artistic boost necessary to create theatrical work during this difficult time.

As artists, they are both drawn to the idea of making theater more accessible and fun, and embracing comedy as an art form that is just as valid as drama. Audiences deserve to be entertained and to have a good time. To shake off the dust of seriousness, Haddad and Weingarten will lead workshops on specific lively topics, such as dessert and the 2000s.

Catherine Weingarten is a friendly jewish chick from an obscure area of Pennsylvania! Her plays use comedy to expose the societal pressures on young women to be impossibly good looking as well as ridiculously intellectual, humble, kind as can be, but also sexy. Her plays have been developed at Dixon Place, Less Than Rent, Last Frontier Theater Conference and elsewhere. She has been a member of Art House Production’s INKubator New PlayLab, Abingdon Playwrights Group as well as New Perspective’s Women’s Work Short Play Lab. Her humor writing has been published by McSweeney's and elsewhere. BA:Bennington College MFA:Ohio University
