Threads of Tradition explores the dialogue between Chinese classical dance and contemporary movement, reflecting on memory, identity, cultural continuity, and the evolving relationship between tradition and the present. The program features Her Letters and Perhaps, a Reed, bringing together movement inspired by Chinese cultural aesthetics, personal memory, and contemporary perspectives. Through the language of the body, the works consider how traditions are remembered, transformed, and reimagined in the present.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Xinyi Zhang is a Chinese classical and contemporary dancer, choreographer, and performing artist based in New York and New Jersey. She holds a BFA in Chinese Classical Dance from Beijing Dance Academy and an MA in Dance Education from New York University, where she received the Outstanding Artistry Award. Her professional performance experience includes Limón2 and collaborations with independent choreographers and multidisciplinary artists. She has performed at venues including The Joyce Theater, Alvin Ailey Theater, and the Mark Morris Dance Center, and has participated in festivals and cross-cultural artistic projects throughout the United States. Zhang’s artistic practice explores the dialogue between Eastern movement traditions and contemporary dance. Drawing from Chinese classical aesthetics and philosophical perspectives, she combines diverse movement languages to reflect on memory, identity, transformation, and the experience of being a contemporary person.
