The Bridge is a new play written by Sarah Cuneo, developed with support from the Hudson County History Partnership Grant through the Hudson County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
SYNOPSIS:
On the day before Thanksgiving in 1932, The Pulaski Skyway opened with great fanfare. Over 2,500 spectators came to an opening ceremony celebrating the culmination of a project that had been forged in bloodshed. The Bridge (working title) follows a high school marching band invited to perform at this opening ceremony. What begins as an exciting opportunity quickly divides the students, many of whom have personal ties to the labor unrest and deadly accidents surrounding the project. The Bridge explores freedom of speech, loyalty, and the strain that deep ideological divisions place on friendships, families, and young people coming of age in a polarized world.
