Kayla Reid’s passionate about destigmatizing mental illness and helping people... and herself in the process. A figure who goes by NF:TE exposes Kayla as a hypocrite since the interview that gained her podcast traction was shared without the other person’s consent—the other person being Kayla’s roommate/ex-partner, Nyx. Kayla’s fans are demanding to hear from Nyx, who’s refusing to speak to Kayla. A mysterious figure beneath Nyx’s bed plays the interview from Nyx’s laptop, which takes them both on an unpredictable trip through their memories/past traumas, until they both face/form connections between their self-destructive impulses, Queerness, and creativity. A play where memories are muddled and some remain painfully the same, no matter how much we try to rewind or edit the past. This piece serves as a reminder that the monsters under our beds are more terrified than terrifying and that even they deserve to be cared for.
