ARTIST STATEMENT

My goal is to create pieces that will help us remember to take time to find balance within and beyond to the natural world; to step away from the noise that can get in the way of what truly matters.

As an extension of my goal, I strive to use my art to support non-profit organizations.  In 2019 I was able to make donations to 6 organizations. I am incredibly grateful to be able to enjoy both the pleasure of selling my art to someone who appreciates a piece and to expand that benefit by passing along financial support to organizations that are making positive impacts in the lives of others.

In this show I will have pieces from two of my collections, the Meditation Collection and the Atmospheric Collection.  The Meditation Collection is inspired by my interest in mindfulness and meditation. I hope that the pieces will serve as a reminder to take a few moments each day to quiet the mind against challenges, to restore balance among the priorities of your day, and to be present in every moment.  The Atmospheric Collection is inspired by my interest in the uncontrollable natural forces in our lives. I hope that the pieces will serve as a reminder to appreciate these forces, to enjoy their beauty, respect and wonder at their power, and to appreciate how we fit into the balance.

BIOGRAPHY

I am largely self-taught with the fundamental elements of art training having occurred in the 1970s while I was in high school followed through the years by classes offered at local community colleges and art centers. I enjoy painting in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, drawing in charcoal and pen and ink, and also photography.  I started showing my work in 2013. In 2018 I launched Lane O’Shea Fine Art (laneoshea.com).
