The Art House Gallery presents: "Ending Up"
by DISTORT
May 3 - June 1, 2025

A bold, immersive exhibition from one of New Jersey’s most celebrated muralists. This exhibition runs from Saturday, May 3 through Sunday, June 1 at the Art House Gallery.

Be among the first to experience this new body of work at the opening reception on Saturday, May 3, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Keep the celebration going with a high-energy dance party in the Art House Theater, hosted by Dancing Tony, from 7:00 to 11:00 PM. Tickets for the dance party are $15 online and $20 at the door. As always, gallery admission is free.

An Artist Talk with DISTORT will take place on Sunday, May 18, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM — offering a rare glimpse into the mind behind some of the region’s most iconic public art.

Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Private viewings are available by appointment by contacting gallery@arthouseproductions.org.

DISTORT’s work defies boundaries — fusing classical influences with raw urban energy. His large-scale murals, charged with emotion and layered narratives, have transformed walls throughout New Jersey, Miami, Istanbul, Los Angeles, and beyond. Now, for “Ending Up,” DISTORT brings his visionary storytelling indoors, reshaping the gallery with thought-provoking new installations.

"I'm thrilled to showcase his latest works in a gallery space that will be completely transformed by his thoughtful ideas and creativity," says Gallery Director Andrea McKenna.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
“We find ourselves living in a world that is increasingly unstable. The once distant vision of a society in collapse has become our current reality. Gazing into that same distance, but with the dark cloud now overhead, a dim light appears at the horizon.  Perhaps the upcoming changes will allow nature to reclaim what we have taken from it.  Maybe the societal structures that are crumbling are the ones that were too brittle for the dynamic flow of life.  Maybe even though things as we know them are coming to an end, we will ultimately be better off. This exhibit imagines our world at its brink; melting away and yielding to a new age where nature and mankind coexist in harmony.  ” - Distort

ABOUT DISTORT
Combining classical training with the intense creative energy of graffiti, DISTORT has made a significant impact on both the streets and the gallery world. Now based in Jersey City, DISTORT earned a BFA from the University of Pennsylvania and a Certificate in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
Following his formal education, he developed a body of work that merges sculptural installation and painting. In 2016, he debuted his now-iconic “scrolls” and “shields” in a solo exhibition at Works on Paper Gallery in Philadelphia. Since then, DISTORT has exhibited extensively throughout the Tri-State Area and has completed murals in Miami, Istanbul, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York City, and across North Jersey.
His most recent project, located just outside the Holland Tunnel, is the largest mural by a single artist in New Jersey. DISTORT continues to create challenging and dynamic work, drawing inspiration from his admiration for classical art and the intensity of the present moment.
