People You Should Know . . . Lawrence Street

Lawrence Street feels extremely lucky to be play ABE in Grace, or the art of climbing. His credits include, Original Broadway Cast of URINETOWNSOUTH PACIFIC at Carnegie Hall, which was filmed for PBS’ Great Performances series and starred Reba McEntire and Brian Stokes Mitchell; the First National Tour of FLASHDANCE directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo and CHESS in Concert for The Actor’s Fund of America.
How did you get involved in theatre?
I grew up in Central Jersey and did my first show in 5th grade for a program called South Plainfield Summer Drama Workshop. It was a big deal because that meant I was good enough to be onstage with High Schoolers. My decision to be a perform professionally was probably made my Junior year of High School. My family didn't have a lot, so the decision to study the performing arts in college was not passionate. It was practical.  My Dad needed proof that I had the talent and discipline to really make a go at it . Back then, New Jersey had a program called The Governor's School of the Arts. The program accepted 8 singers out of the entire state and I was one of them. After that, he was cautiously optimistic.
