In late September of 2001, and event called WHAT DO YOU SAY? marked the beginning of Art House Productions. As a direct response to 9/11, this informal gathering and performance night brought together a vast array of poets, actors, writers, and members of the community. At that time, the need was expressed for Art House Productions to create a consistent, supportive venue for performing artists to connect with one another and develop new work.

Since then, Art House Productions has hosted performance events throughout New York and New Jersey. An ongoing open mic series, THE ART HOUSE, is held on the first Thursday of every month next to Hamilton Park in Jersey City, NJ.

Past featured performers have included Reg E. Gaines (Book/lyrics of Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk, Obie Award winner, two time Tony Award nominee and Grammy Award nominee), Luis Reyes Rivera (host of WBAI 99.5's "Perspective" radio show), Regie Cabico (National Poetry Slam champion, winner of MTV's Free Your Mind competition, 1997 recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts Poetry Fellowship), Ishle Yi Park (Queens Poet Laureate, performer on HBO's Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry), Ken McManus (Pushcart Prize Nominee), and Mahina Movement (New York activists, mixed-media performance troupe).

In 2004, Art House Productions produced, "Sleeping with Management," a multimedia theatre piece which had its world premiere as part of the New York International Fringe Festival, the largest festival of its kind in North America.

Past special events have included SPONTANEOUS PERFORMANCE: JERSEY CITY ART TOUR 2004, CATHEDRAL ARTS FESTIVAL 2005, WORLD POETRY DAY, PABLO NERUDA CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION, A POETRY PICNIC IN THE MIDDLE OF MIDTOWN, WORDS AGAINST WAR, and POETRY WITHOUT WALLS: AN OUTDOOR READING IN CELEBRATION OF JERSEY CITY on the steps of City Hall.

Art House Productions produces THE ART HOUSE TV SHOW, a television series highlighting performances from THE ART HOUSE and other live events. THE ART HOUSE TV SHOW is at the end of its second season, airing on Comcast Channel 51 and Manhattan Neighborhood Network.

Alley Cats and Words Against War are two Art House Productions literary collections that have sold-out in local bookstores. Art House Productions publishes a monthly Poetry Section featuring local poets' work in The Hudson Current, a Hudson County, NJ newspaper. This project enables writers to get their work into the hands of over 10,000 people a week.

In August, Art House Productions will produce the world premiere of "Sleeping with Management," as part of the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival.
